Local Resources in Upstate, SC
Photographer: Life Prints by Tracie Don’t expect a studio in a strip mall with cheesy backdrops. Tracie shoots on location. Check out my newborn photos.
Lactation Help: Carey Collins I’ve personally witnessed Carey working with a new mom and baby. She is so patient and respectful. If you need help, Carey will come to you.
Natural Parenting Store: Natural Baby I love the peaceful atmosphere of this amazing store downtown. There is space to lounge, nurse your baby, let your little ones play. And, of course, buy your cloth diapers, baby carrier, fair-trade blankets, and so much more.
Chiropractor: Cara Davis Located near Furman University, Cara uses the Advantage Chiropractic method which is so gentle. She excels at care for expectant women, newborns, and children.
Midwife: Midwives are super. I’ve worked with many midwives in our area. Some I have not. The midwife who alligns closest with my birthing preferences is Carey Collins. She’s also skilled in Hypnobabies and is a great fit for those students. Pick your own based on compatibility, location, and your unique needs.
Hospital for Births: Greer Memorial This hospital is so accommodating and the rooms are lovely. Laboring women may spend time in the large, jetted tubs. The LDR rooms include mini-fridges, a sofa bed, rocking chair, and space for moving about.
Obstetrician: Keith Stafford Well, technically, he is a family physician who also practices obstetrics. He does not perform c-sections or provide care for some high risk pregnancies. He is, however, a stellar choice for a normal hospital birth.
Obstetric Group: Greer OB/GYN. If you are planning a hospital VBAC or prefer an obstetric group, this practice is a great choice. Only four doctors and their VBAC stats are high. Also, because they practice at Greer Memorial, laboring moms have access to tub immersion–even with continuous monitoring. If you require a planned cesarean, consider Dr. Cowart who supports delayed cord-clamping for cesarean birth.
Postpartum Support: Susan Breisch has a wealth of knowledge and resources for moms and families who are experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, baby blues, or other postpartum issues. She leads the Upstate Postpartum Support group which meets monthly.
Playgroup: The Greenville Attachment Parenting Playgroup With gatherings to choose from multiple times each week and an active message board for quick answers to questions, the AP group is a warm place to find common ground and support.
Pediatric Dentist: Mark Muncy. The office is a well-oiled machine. We’ve never waited long and have always had an enjoyable experience. Norah sits in my lap the whole time. Brianna, who is always our hygienist, is amazing! Plus, Norah gets stickers, toys, ice cream, and a balloon.
Ultrasound: Vision of Life Ultrasound. This family-friendly business provides a joyful and relaxed environment if you want a peak at your baby. There are also classes and events available for expectant couples like childbirth classes, bellycasting, and prenatal yoga.
